Home / Stocks Slip as Oil Prices and Bond Yields Rise
Stocks ended the holiday-shortened week lower, despite a rally on Friday, as rising oil prices and higher bond yields weighed on investor sentiment.
Oil prices moved substantially higher during the week amid continued concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Several Persian Gulf countries are expected to meet with Iran’s foreign minister next week to discuss a potential plan to restart shipping through the critical waterway. Any progress toward restoring normal shipping could help ease some of the pressure on energy prices.
Meanwhile, inflation remains stubbornly elevated, increasing uncertainty over the Federal Reserve’s next move. The Fed is scheduled to meet next week, with investors closely watching for clues about the path of interest rates.
We’ll be watching both developments closely as markets look for greater clarity on inflation, interest rates, and energy prices.
